A POWERFUL JOURNEY
Saturday 18th October 7.30pm
The United Reform Church
Entry: £6.00 in advance £8.00 on the door.
David Power was educated at Bishop Wordsworth School in Salisbury and first
learnt to play the organ at the city's cathedral under Dr.Christopher Dearnley.
He trained to be a teacher in London and there studied the organ under Brian
Brockless.
He has been playing the organ for church services for over 50 years and been
organist at St.John's Tisbury since 1970. Since his retirement he has also
been organist at Salisbury Crematorium. In 2005 he received the St.Augustine's
Cross for services to Church Music and the St. Aldhelm's Cross for services
to the Diocese of Salisbury.
Last year he fulfilled a lifetime ambition to play all the Anglican Cathedral
organs in England - 44 including the I.O.M. and Gibraltar - which he achieved
over a three week period raising over £10,000 for MacMillan Cancer Support.
This Powerful Journey will be the subject of the concert tonight when
David talks about his experiences and plays some of the music connected with the
cathedrals visited.
A donation to MacMillan Cancer Support will be made from tonight's proceeds.
