2010 WRITE IN THE WEEK RESULTS

A thank you to all who entered Mere Literary Festival's new competition - timed flash fiction. The very short 'flash fiction' story is not new, but we wondered if the concept and practicalities of a timed competition would work and thanks to you, the internet, local libraries and a message on the organiser's answerphone, they did.

There were 95 adult entries and 30 juniors - a good start for a new competition. All judging was anonymous and the high standard impressed our readers, but there was no doubt over the winning stories which showed originality, style, story structure and an imaginative take on the given phrase -

ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE

THE WINNERS

Congratulations to Rachael on her double (and it was her first competition!) - and to Gordon.

CERTIFICATES (listed as per competition number)

So, how did we decide on the given phrase? Well, it is the Beatles anniversary, but the clincher was the donation of book prizes (adult section) from author Jewelle St.James of her book 'ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE' in which she describes a visit to Mere. MLF acknowledge with thanks this kind donation.
